This assignment was designed to assist the Department of Water Affairs with how to address the huge task of providing support to numerous municipalities around provider issues. It was an extremely strategic piece of work as the country attempted to get to grips with some enormous challenges with respect to water supply sustainability. WAI were subsequently involved in hands-on WSP support work.

The scope included the process design for the project, identification of key competency areas (KCAs) for effective water services provision and designing, convening and holding 10 Expert Focus Groups (EFGs) to address the KCAs. Subsequently key finding and trends emerging from the EFGs were distilled and the development of draft strategic implementation framework documents was undertaken. Following this, integration of the above work into the broader Sector Support Strategy and writing appropriate Concept and Implementation Notes was effected.
